Course Background
The HeartCode® Basic Life Support for healthcare providers aims to equip individuals with essential skills to recognize cardiac arrest, provide immediate and life sustaining care. The course focuses on high- quality CPR for all ages, the use of AED, relieve choking, thereby acting as the crucial first link in the “chain of survival”.

This video-based, instructor-led AHA’s BLS Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2025 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. The textbook of the BLS Provider manual (2025 Guideline) is included.

HeartCode BLS is a blended-learning course encompassing self-paced online learning as well as hands-on practice and testing of BLS skills. The online portion uses a personalized adaptive algorithm that sets students on the most efficient path to BLS mastery. Students follow a continuously adapting learning path that is personalized by their own inputs: their performance and their self-reported confidence level related to each probe they answer. The course content includes a variety of learning assets such as dramatizations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills.

After completing the online portion and obtaining their certificate of completion, students will attend a structured, instructorled hands-on session that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing. Where available, students may also complete the hands-on session with a HeartCode-compatible manikin.

Course Pre-requisites
Participants are required to complete the hands-on skills session within 6 months of completing the online course. The completion certificate must be submitted to HKCEM via email (course@hkcem.org.hk) before attending the hand-on course.

Participant who has not completed the online session will not be allowed to take the hands-on course!

Course Completion Requirements
To complete the BLS Course for Healthcare Providers, participants should able to demonstrate the skills of adult and infant CPR and use of AEDs.

Additionally, they must achieve a minimum score of 84% on the written multiple-choice examination.
