Course Background

The AHA ACLS Provider Course provides knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage initial stage of adult arrest. The course uses case-based teaching. Providers are expected to learn to manage ACLS core cases: a respiratory emergency, 4 types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA, and asystole), pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia, and acute coronary syndromes), and stroke.

The ACLS Course consists of lectures, video show and multiple practical scenarios to help the participants to acquire the techniques of ACLS. Simulators will be used in different scenarios to make the whole training more interesting and challenging.

The Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine has been providing resuscitation training since 1991. All accredited AHA instructors are practicing medical or nursing colleagues with years of teaching experience. This course uses 2020 update AHA resuscitation guidelines.

Course Test

To complete the ACLS Provider Course, candidate should be able to demonstrate adult CPR skills and use of the AED and achieve the learning objectives for each core case outlined in the critical evaluation checklist.

A post-course written MCQ examination will be issued. The passing rate is 84%. Students will also be assessed on practical ACLS scenarios.

Successful candidates will be given attendance certificates and AHA ACLS completion e-certificates.
