RACEplus and PIE is coming to HK again!

NICCER is pleased to announce that, in conjunction with HKCEM and HKCA, we are providing RACEplus and PIE in Hong. Kong again in July 2026.

1.      Rapid Assessment by Cardiac Echo (RACEplus(20-21 July 2026)

This is a basic (entry) level TTE course.  NICCER has been offering RACEplus for nearly 20 years, and the demand for RACEplus has not diminished.  RACEplus aims to equip critical care physicians with basic TTE skills and knowledge to perform bedside echocardiography in their daily practices.   The participants learn how to ultilizes ultrasound to assess the left heart, right heart, fluid status and pericardial effusion in the two days course.  The participants will also learn how to interpret and report critical care TTEs systematically through a number of case studies.

The quality of RACEplus is well recognised internationally, and is approved by many learned societies.  The contents of our courses and teaching methods are well known to keep pace with time – the course evolved to reflect any updates in the field as well as to match the contemporary needs.

2.      Practical Intermediate Echocardiography (PIE) (23-24 July 2026)

This is a “First proper Doppler echo course for critical care in the world” for critical care physicians.  This course designed with a purpose to bridge the gap between basic (level 1) critical care TTE (e.g. RACEplus) and advanced echo courses.  PIE is a Doppler echo course that emphasizes both practices and theories, and is particularly suitable for practitioners who want understand the what, why andhow of Doppler cardiac and haemodynamic assessments.   As such, the course not only covers the theoretical aspects of measurements (including physiological principles and applications) but also the details of measurements.  Some of the topics covered include,

·         cardiac output measurements

·         pulmonary artery pressures estimation

·         valvular assessments

·         LV filling pressure assessments

·         Dynamic outflow obstruction

After the course, the participants should be able to understand

  • when and how to apply Doppler measurements,
  • how to obtain accurate and reliable measurements and
  • how to trouble-shoot wrong Doppler measurements

This is probably the first TTE course that uses an experimental approach in the hands-on session.   The trainers are composed of experts, and highly qualified and experienced trainers (locally and overseas).  Please visit  https://niccer.asn.au/events/2026-hong-kong-pie/ for more information and registration.

Note: We recommend participants should have completed a basic level echo course before (e.g. RACEplus), and have performed at least 30 TTEs or are comfortable in obtaining the standard TTE views.

We look forward to seeing you again in 2026!
