Emergency Medicine

Dear Fellows and Trainees

It is my greatest honour to serve as the President of the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine starting from October 2017. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Paul HO, our immediate past president who has successfully led our college to a brighter step for the future. I am determined to continue the current footsteps to maintain the high standard of emergency physician to serve our general public.

Specialist training is always the core business of the college. We will endeavor to safeguard the standard of the emergency medicine specialist in Hong Kong. Our current two levels of training and three professional examination made sure that all trainees must have fulfilled the recognized standard before they are qualified as emergency medicine specialists. We have more than ten subcommittees under the Scientific Affairs Committee so as to facilitate the development and training on specific area in emergency medicine. Clinical Toxicology was the first subspeciality established in our college and we hope that we can develop more subspecialities to be widely recognized in near future.

We will continue to play a major role in the international emergency medicine. As an active member in the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM), we will continue to support the International Conference on Emergency Medicine (ICEM) by nomination of speakers and sending delegates to attend the conference. We will also actively participate in the various committees and special interest groups in IFEM. Our delegates will also participate in the academic activities in other Asian countries and Mainland China. For those undeveloped Asian countries where emergency medicine has not yet completely developed, we would also like to give a hand to facilitate the establishment of their training programme.

Young generation is our future. The college will plead to engage more participation from our young fellows. The Young Fellow Chapter of our college has successfully organized various activities for our young fellows and it has also actively participated in the newly established Young Fellow Chapter of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. We will envisage our young generation who will be one of major driving force in future. Besides the Young Fellow Chapter, we have also established the Emergency Medicine Trainee Network. The network is led by our Young Fellow Chapter and we are confident that the bonding with our trainee will be enhanced. The network is also endorsed to liaise with overseas emergency medicine trainee network for more knowledge sharing.

Last but not the least, we need support from all the trainees and fellows so as to make our college stronger.

Thank you very much.

Your President
